My family history

My maternal Grandfather (Guiseppi Ciolino) was born in America during a family vacation in 1913. His parents (my great-grandparents) went back to Sicily after their visas expired in 1915. At 14 y.o., he illegally boarded a merchant ship and made his way back to America. He got a job loading trucks on Randolph St. in Chicago. He met my Grandmother Fortunata Italia who was 2nd generation from Palermo, Sicily and they were married at 16. Neither had any formal education past 8th grade. My grandparents sponsored my aunt Grace Giallombardo (Ciolino) and her husband Sam with their 3 daughters who were all born in Montemaggiorri, Sicily when they came to America. My Grandparents then sponsored my Uncle Angelo and his wife Frances and four of their six children who were also born in Montemaggiorri, Sicily when they came to America. My Grandparents bought their first property which was a three flat in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood where my mother Gaetana Ciolino and her older brother Guiseppi Ciolino grew up. Both attended Von Stueben H.S. and went to Wright Junior College. My Grandparents owned a laundromat and my grandfather got a job with the City of Chicago (since he was naturalized citizen) and became a precinct captain in the Albany Park nieghborhood of Chicago. He died early in life in 1963 at age 49 y.o. due to complications from diabetes.
